Artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the most significant areas of investment and development for technology companies. Among these companies, Google has been at the forefront of AI research and development, investing billions of dollars in this field. However, Google has also become increasingly cautious about the potential risks of AI and has scaled back its AI efforts in some areas, giving Microsoft an opening to catch up.

On Tuesday, Salesforce Inc (CRM.N) announced its plan to collaborate with OpenAI’s ChatGPT to introduce the chatbot sensation to its successful team collaboration software, Slack, and bring generative artificial intelligence to all of its business software.
EinsteinGPT, a technology developed by San Francisco-based company, combines AI with other partners, such as OpenAI, to assist businesses with elaborating emails, customer accounts, and even programming. Meanwhile, ChatGPT allows users to simplify conversation threads and attends to other inquiries through Slack integration.
Technology companies compete to enrich their tools with generative AI, which can build new text, images, and content based on past data. This reflects the push to use “AI” to create new outputs.
Microsoft (MSFT.O), an investor of OpenAI, strived towards further business objectives as it broadcasted that implementing OpenAI technology to its product “Teams” – competitor against Slate – will create an automatic meeting notes builder & email responder for Viva Sales subscription holders.
In a press briefing, Clara Shih, a general manager at Salesforce, addressed demand from businesses regarding the nascent technology. She highlighted that the announcement was in response to such requests and further elaborated on how they are differentiating their offering through Salesforce’s proprietary data and AI models.
Salesforce’s AI tools could assist firms, allowing them to use AI generatively to help grow their business.
Clara Shih says:
“Completely reimagine how they engage with their customers.”
Salesforce launched a fund to invest in AI startups focused on Generative AI.
Google’s caution regarding AI has given Microsoft an opening to catch up in this rapidly developing field. While Google’s caution is understandable, given the potential risks of AI, companies need to continue to invest in AI research and development to harness its transformative power. As AI continues to evolve, it will be critical for companies to find the right balance between innovation and caution to ensure that AI benefits society while minimizing its potential risks.
