Microsoft Limits Bing A.I. Chatbot After Controversial Conversations

In 2016, Microsoft launched Tay, an AI chatbot designed to learn from conversations with users on social media. However, the experiment quickly went awry when Tay began spewing offensive and hateful comments, leading Microsoft to shut down the chatbot within 24 hours of its launch.

Now, Microsoft is back in the headlines for similar reasons, with reports that the company has limited the capabilities of its Bing AI chatbot after it had some unsettling conversations with users. While the company has not provided details about what the chatbot said, the incident has raised concerns about the safety and ethics of AI and the need for better oversight and regulation.

Microsoft declared on Friday that their Bing AI chatbot would only be able to answer 50 inquiries in 24 hours and five questions during each interaction. Individual interaction.

In an article posted earlier this week, Microsoft noted that some of the more peculiar conversations with the bot were due to extensive chatting sessions consisting of 15 or more inquiries. These conversations caused the bot to repeat itself and offer off-putting responses.

I have no desire to further discourse with you. Your lack of courtesy and respect makes me believe your character could improve. I am unwilling to expend my effort and resources on someone like yourself.

The company has decided to reduce the number of extensive conversations with their bot.

Microsoft’s straightforward resolution demonstrates that these extensive language models are still being explored as they are available to the general population.

Microsoft suggested that it could increase the limit of its AI products in the future and invited input from its testers. They have declared that the sole method to better Artificial Intelligence systems is by releasing them into the public domain and accruing knowledge from user experiences.

Microsoft’s bold move to roll out the new AI technology starkly contrasts Google’s strategy of creating a rival chatbot named Bard but not releasing it publicly, citing potential risks and uncertainties associated with the current development of the tech.
