Lamda Hellix, a global leader in cloud connectivity and infrastructure solutions, is making its presence felt in Greece by announcing two new points of presence (POPs). This move gives Greek businesses enhanced internet security and reliable high-speed data transport. Lamda Hellix’s POPs will help empower companies to succeed in the digital economy and stay competitive.
Today, Lamda Hellix – now part of Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR) and the world’s largest provider of the cloud-neutral data center, colocation, and interconnection services – has announced they are expanding their operations in Athens, Greece. As part of the expansion, two new data centers will be developed there come December 8th, 2022. The company also revealed that this coincides with its rebrand to Digital Realty.
ATH3, the first facility, is being built and should be ready by March 2023. It will be the biggest data center in the country, offering up to 6.8 MW of power for its 8600 sqm area. ATH4, expected to open sometime in 2024, is forecasted to provide an extra 6.8 MW capacity when operational.
Lamda Hellix’s ATH1 and ATH2 facilities will be connected to the new ATH3 and ATH4, allowing customers to take advantage of the large numbers of users and quickly expanding data networks created at these locations.
PlatformDIGITAL® from Digital Realty is a global data center platform that provides customers with connections to key businesses in over 300 data centers located around the world. These data centers are in 27 countries across 50 major metropolises on 6 continents.
In addition to constructing a new data center in Heraklion, Crete, Digital Realty is expanding its presence in the Mediterranean by adding ATH3 and ATH4. This will help strengthen Greece’s standing as an important connection point between Eastern Europe and North Africa while furthering Digital Realty’s broader vision.
Today, a high-profile event was held at Digital Realty’s Athens Data Center Campus to celebrate the announcement. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Minister of Development and Investments Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, US Ambassador George Tsunis, Bill Stein from Digital Realty, and Lamda Hellix Chairman and CEO Apostolos Kakkos were all present to witness it.
Apostolos Kakkos says:
“These new facilities will add needed capacity and further strengthen the connected data communities that have developed in our data centers. Our continued investment in Greece will provide critical infrastructure for the country, which is necessary for the acceleration of cloud and content providers’ entrance into the market, and which further contributes to digital transformation and economic growth.”
Bill Stein says:
“Digital Realty is pleased to be expanding its presence in Greece, with ATH3 and ATH4 playing an important role in meeting the increasing demand for carrier-neutral data center capacity in this market. It’s an important part of Digital Realty’s integrated Mediterranean strategy, which will enable customers to build new network routes with lower latencies to Eastern Europe and Northern Africa.”
The event marks Lamda Hellix’s transition to Digital reality. Through PlatformDIGITAL®, Digital Realty is creating a secure environment for data management, allowing customers to exchange, optimize, connect, and control information locally and globally.
Apostolos Kakkos continues says:
“Since the acquisition of Lamda Hellix by Digital Realty, we have committed significant resources towards integrating our systems, processes and procedures, and we are extremely happy to now be able to rebrand to Digital Realty and focus on the common purpose that has solidified Digital Realty’s presence worldwide: to help foster a unified global company whose mission it is to bring companies and data together, in bold new ways, to power the innovation determining our future.”
The company’s strength has always been its top-tier customer service and support, which it will continue to provide with these new data center locations.
