Katee Sackhoff, known for starring in The Mandalorian as Bo-Katan, has expressed her thoughts on the potential of being replaced by Artificial Intelligence. She believes that if AI were to replace her in the role, it would be a worrying sign for actor jobs everywhere.
Katee Sackhoff says:
“I mean if my family reaps the benefit of that? Yeah, of course.”
The workplace is increasingly embracing AI as a replacement for human positions. With this in mind, even some of the most popular actors are considered potential replacements by their AI counterparts. What was once thought to be an impossibility is quickly becoming a reality.
The Mandalorian Star Talks Artificial Intelligence & Its Impact On The Arts
Kate Sackhoff has achieved an impressive body of work in the Star Wars saga, providing both inspiring strength and palpable emotion through her evidenced portrayal of Bo-Katan Kryze. This beloved character has featured in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels and continues to delight fans in The Mandalorian.
Despite the huge following of her fans, Artificial Intelligence has rendered the irreplaceable actress replaceable with its advanced technology. AI can duplicate even the most exclusive performers, thus changing their perceived uniqueness.
James Earl Jones has granted the Star Wars crew permission to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to conclude his portrayal of Darth Vader. Thus, bringing this conversation into actuality for another character in the Star Wars universe.
The news that James Earl Jones has decided to retire but allow his character’s story to continue still surprises some, yet most admire him for his decision. His choice has caused other actors to contemplate the same issues.
SACHHOFF’s Thoughts On The Future Of Artificial Intelligence
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Katee Sackhoff expressed her opinion regarding being replaced by AI when she can no longer portray the part. She concurs with James Earl Jones and is amenable to the idea once that time comes.
Katee Sackhoff says:
“I mean, if my family reaps the benefit of that? Yeah, of course,” Sackhoff said. “I think we’re into a really, really tricky place with AI. It’s scary to me in some regard and others, you know, for a fandom to continue to have new content after someone is gone is pretty amazing. But I do believe that the original artist should always be financially,, paid for their work and to sit there and say that they’re not working anymore is, that’s fine but you don’t see people out there copying Picassos and being like, you know, it’s fine. Someone’s getting paid for that. There’s a trust somewhere.”
The complexity of debating AI is undeniable; no single response can adequately address it. There is no straightforward answer to the questions that arise from AI discussion.
She continues to say:
“It’s a really slippery slope. I’ve done everything in my power to position myself in a place in my career. and I’ve turned a lot of things down because I wanted to make sure that I had control of the way that I was viewed and the way that I was perceived and the image that I portrayed and the morals that I pulled with me throughout my career. If somebody is just out there copying you and your voice and they can have you do whatever they want, that’s not ok. It’s not ok. So, I don’t know. I think it’s a scary thing. I think it’s a scary thing but at the same time I can’t imagine that a deal like that would be struck without some really, really, really strict legal work done.”
Actors like Katee Sackhoff are immensely valuable in helping to bring characters to life. So they must give full permission before any Artificial Intelligence programs or applications are implemented. We sincerely hope to continue seeing her portray the character of The Mandalorian for years to come.
