“For you to make that happen, you can’t run everything in a data center, you’re going to have to bring the AI to the devices.”
Generating big-language models entirely in smartphones is something that will be achievable, not requiring connectivity of any kind to the internet. This means that purely localized models would be executable on devices.
Cristiano continues to say:
“The ability to create that much processing power in a smartphone and run that without compromising the battery life is something that only Qualcomm can do.”
Analysts at Bernstein calculated that there could be a market opportunity worth billions of dollars annually for chipmakers originating from the demand to power AI queries.
Qualcomm, as part of its supply of chips, has been teaming up with VR device manufacturers such as Meta, Samsung, and Google. These collaborations have enabled the company to provide its technology for various devices in this field.
