Spotify has unveiled something new on its app: a robot DJ with a “stunningly realistic” voice to queue the songs according to your musical preferences based on your listening history.
Wednesday, DJ beta has begun to receive a rollout in English available exclusively to Spotify Premium users in the U.S. and Canada.
Spotify, already offering many personalized-listening features, has discovered their Daily Mix and Discovery Weekly playlists. Their auto-generated functions enhance the user experience for these 2.
DJ stands out by incorporating Spotify’s personalization capabilities with AI from OpenAI (the company responsible for the ChatGPT chatbot). This union enhances users’ audio experiences as the technology generates more powerful conversations beyond talk.
Spotify has equipped its music editors with AI technology to pass along useful information related to the Music, artist, and genre that subscribers are listening to. In this way, they seek to offer insight into what they are hearing.
Through its Sonantic acquisition last year, Spotify’s DJ employs an AI text-to-speech engine that provides ongoing commentary about the tracks and artists it’s playing. This feature is similar to a human DJ.
Xavier “X” Jernigan, who previously hosted Spotify’s personalized morning show, was tasked with creating the initial voice model for the DJ when the company released it. Jernigan is currently head of cultural partnerships at Spotify.
Spotify says:
“The Get Up.” Jernigan’s voice is the first model for the DJ, and “we’ll continue to iterate and innovate, as we do with all our products.”
The Spotify DJ will use your music-taste profile to suggest songs it believes you will love – this could be a recently released number or one you previously had stuck in your head.
The DJ feature allows you to customize your lineup according to your tastes. It refreshes content in response to your feedback – if you’re not keen on what’s playing, a simple click of the “DJ” button will move on to the next style or mood.
