At the Global Fund Seventh Replenishment Conference in New York on September 21, 2022, Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, gave a speech.
Gates believes OpenAI’s GPT AI model to be the most groundbreaking achievement in the realm of technology since he encountered the modern graphical desktop environment (GUI) in 1980 – a period marked by Microsoft’s founding.
Gates revolutionized the computing experience by introducing a graphical user interface (GUI) with Microsoft Windows, which had not been seen prior. This technology moved away from the traditional command line access and created a modern-day software powerhouse.
Gates has reflected on OpenAI’s GPT models and finds similarities – models that can create text that looks like it was written by a human and generate computer code that could almost be used.
GPT-4, released last week by OpenAI, has reportedly achieved the maximum score on the Advanced Placement Biology exam – a feat that Mubashir Qureshi challenged the OpenAI team with last year. He revealed this in a blog post on Tuesday.
Gates says:

Gates is not alone in recognizing recent advancements in AI as a turning point for the technology industry – sharing that vision with Google’s Eric Schmidt and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, who has forecasted the furtherance of data-based machine learning, which could revolutionize entire industries.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang on Tuesday coined AI as having an “iPhone moment,” signifying the ubiquity of its use and how it yields business opportunities. He proclaimed that many business owners would profit from AI applications and tools.
OpenAI, the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) model developer, has close ties with Microsoft and Gates. Microsoft invested $10 billion in OpenAI and sold AI software via its Azure cloud services.
Gates suggests that people talking about AI should “balance fears” of biased, wrong, or unfriendly tools with their potential to improve lives.
Klein believes AI should be utilized to improve education and health in the developing world, and governments and philanthropies should fund these tools because companies may not make those investments. He argues that using AI can drastically improve both sectors.
What sets GPT apart from previous language models is its pre-training process, which allows it to learn from massive amounts of data and adapt to new situations quickly. This has made GPT more accurate and efficient than previous language models and opened up new possibilities for AI applications in natural language processing.
