Manchester United’s incredible achievements over the past three decades and their global appeal have led some to call them the greatest team in the world. They are credited with being the second most successful English side regarding trophies, and now artificial intelligence has determined its best XI, featuring superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in a Manchester United XI chosen by Artificial Intelligence – although stars such as Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, and Wayne Rooney (the club’s record goalscorer) did not cut. AI website selected Ronaldo to be part of the greatest-ever heralded United side.
Throughout its history, some of the world’s most talented players have worn the Manchester United shirt. Legends such as the ‘Busby Babes,’ ‘Fergie’s Fledglings, ‘ and many more have proudly represented the United.
Certainly, choosing the best-ever lineup for any position is difficult, given the abundance of options available. Intriguingly, the Artificial Intelligence selection features no players currently on the team. Therefore, this XI has been selected:
Peter Schmeichel, the Danish goalkeeper, became a pivotal figure during his 1991-1999 spell at Manchester United. With his 398 appearances over nine seasons, he played an important role in the club’s unparalleled success under Sir Alex Ferguson. During his time with United, he yielded five Premier League titles.
Neville, a native of Bury, is one of the exclusive members who solely represented United in their professional career and has clocked an impressive 600 matches for the Red Devils. The right-back has been picked out prominently as an indispensable part of the squad.
Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic formed the defensive pairing at Manchester United, which lasted nearly a decade, winning several notable prizes, including the 2008 Champions League. The two center-backs complemented each other during their time together, earning immense acclaim.
Ferdinand and Vidic clocked impressive appearances for the club, with 455 and 300, respectively, surpassing other club greats like Gary Pallister, Bill Foulkes, and Jaap Stam.
Dennis Irwin, of the Republic of Ireland, had a spell at Leeds, Oldham, and Wolves before reaching the peak of his powers at Manchester United as part of the back-four in Ferguson’s successful 1990s side.
At the core of midfield, the tough-tackling Roy Keane (transferred from Nottingham Forest in 1993) and Paul Scholes – who, over his one-club career, played 718 games for Manchester United, scoring 155 goals – were vital to Alex Ferguson’s team.
The wealth of talent found among the front four of Manchester United is evident, with George Best foremost among them. Regarded as one of their most naturally gifted footballers, Best was renowned for his ability to take the game by storm during the club’s golden years of the 60s and early 70s.
Sir Bobby Charlton, another member of Manchester United’s acclaimed ‘Holy Trinity,’ was an important figure for Bossby. He appeared in 758 matches and registered a club-record 249 goals before Rooney surpassed his tally.
United’s fifth and final spot belongs to Ronaldo, one of the most renowned footballers in history, alongside Pele, Maradona, and Messi. The five-time Ballon d’Or holder is the greatest football superstar to ever don a Manchester United jersey.
During his stint at the club, Eric Cantona became a beloved figure amongst Manchester United supporters, earning himself cult hero status. Many fondly remember his performances and demeanor on and off the field. The charismatic Frenchman rightfully takes up the other spot on the side.
Despite registering the fewest appearances in a United shirt (185) of any team member, Eric Cantona is selected ahead of other greats such as Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Denis Law – the third member of United’s legendary ‘Holy Trinity.’
The AI has selected a Man Utd XI: Schmeichel in goal; Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, and Irwin along the defensive line; Keane and Scholes playing midfield; Best, B. Charlton, Ronaldo, and Cantona up top.
AI has done an excellent job selecting a Manchester United XI featuring some of the greatest players ever. Whether you agree with the selections, there’s no denying this team would be a formidable opponent for anyone who stepped onto the pitch against them.
