Vinod Khosla, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and an early investor in OpenAI’s ChatGPT believes that artificial intelligence (A.I.) can “free humanity from the need to work.” However, he acknowledges this would cause huge global disruption and fierce competition.
In 25 years, the venture capitalist suggested that A.I. could replace as much as 80% of jobs – a prediction he made during an interview with Semafor.
Khosla says:
“This large transformation is the opportunity to free humanity from the need to work. People will work when they want to work on what they want to work on,”
Khosla Ventures, a venture capital firm founded by Vinod Khosla, has successfully invested in some of today’s most prominent companies, such as DoorDash, Instacart, Impossible Foods, and Wattpad.
Vinod Khosla predicted in 2014 that A.I. would greatly impact the future, including disrupting teaching and creating most forms of media. He spoke to Semafor about his vision of a world where A.I. has significant implications.
Still, transitioning to a world in which A.I. handles most jobs won’t be without difficulties. It won’t be a simple process.
Khosla went on to say:
“That’s a utopian vision. But getting from here to that utopia is really disruptive and it is terrible to be the disrupted one,”
“So you have to have empathy for whoever’s being disrupted. And the transition is very messy. It hurts people, hurts lives, destroys lives.”

According to Khosla, substantial research must be undertaken to facilitate A.I. proliferation. He noted that some nations, such as Rwanda and Brazil, might not possess the means of financing their development in A.I., and many countries are competing for the lead regarding this technology.
In contrast to China’s five-year plan to lead the global A.I. market, most other countries have slowly adopted this technology.
