Sara Haines, co-host of “The View,” cautioned that with major tech luminaries pushing for a moratorium on AI research, “everyone should be scared” of artificial intelligence.
Haines stated that they had come to the end of the conversation during Thursday’s meeting.
Haines says:
“Everyone should be scared” and “everyone should be nervous”
“When the technical brain, the engineers behind the technology say we need to put a hold on this, something’s going on, everyone should be scared,”
Co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar said they didn’t “trust” the tech experts, while Goldberg seemed to agree; however, he [Goldberg] did not express his opinion directly.

In a clear warrant to put a pause on the development of increasingly powerful Artificial Intelligence systems, tech luminaries like Tesla founder Elon Musk, Apple’s Steve Wozniak, and several other experts in the field have recently published an open letter urging AI labs to consider potential risks AI might bring to our society.
Early in the segment, Haines suggested that tech and AI experts who signed the letter should collaborate with government officials so they are more comfortable with their decision.
Co-hosts Sunny Hostin disagreed, stating that the letter, signed by Musk and others, “[means] nothing” to her.
Sunny Hostin went on to say:
“When Elon Musk, who has turned Twitter into a hellscape and is a maniac, that means nothing to me. Now if there’s someone like a Bill Gates perhaps, if there is someone who is very respected in this community, I would agree with you,”

Hostin and Joy Behar noted that they have used ChatGPT, a generative AI program, and were not “afraid of it.” Haines also mentioned ChatGPT as an example.
Haines continues to say:
“A lot of money if you ever watched Social Network on Netflix, you saw brilliant people saying, guys, there is something wrong here, raising their hand over and over again. Now, if it’s hitting the top, where the dollar matters the most, and they are saying we are a little nervous, everyone should be nervous,”
In an open letter addressed to AI developers, the signatures of over 1,000 people called for an immediate halt on the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems that are more powerful than GPT-4 for at least the next 6 months.
The development of powerful AI systems should not occur until we are certain that the consequences of their implementation are advantageous and the risks they pose can be controllable.
The letter urges that during this pause, AI labs and independent experts must work together to form a set of reliable safety protocols thoroughly checked and monitored by independent parties for AI’s advanced design and development.
We must also ensure that individuals from diverse backgrounds are involved in developing and deploying AI to prevent the reinforcement of biased algorithms and promote inclusivity and diversity.
By doing so, we can harness the potential of AI to create a better world where technology works for everyone rather than against us. Ultimately, it is up to us to shape the future of AI and ensure that it serves humanity’s best interests.
