Is a computer able to learn how to read? And if yes, would you know how to teach him the Armenian alphabet? A team from Calfa is leading a learning lab at the TUMO Center of Yerevan from March 7th to 22nd, 2019, to make the public aware of the topic of character recognition (OCR/HTR).
The goals for the students involve uncovering the significance and requirements of OCR/HTR systems, experimenting with the newest technologies in this field (notably those using Deep Learning), and constructing their recognition engine.
The students will be allowed to become data scientists for 15 days. During that time, they will be guided through all the stages of creating an intelligent system, from preparing the data to evaluating the outcomes.
This learning lab will be a great chance to take a closer look at certain topics of interest to Calfa, such as how Armenian Studies and Artificial Intelligence can be blended and what the objectives of this combination are. Additionally, it will explore how AI can be used to make heritage preservation more effective.
Calfa and its partners are collaborating to preserve Armenian manuscripts in the modern age digitally. The workshop includes:
– Armenian paleography studies ancient writing systems found in manuscripts and other written material from Armenia.
– This course is intended to introduce students to Cognitive Science and Machine Learning techniques for analyzing documents.
– Finally, a brief overview of Classical Armenian will be presented.
TUMO Center for Creative Technologies allows Armenian youth aged 12 to 18 to work on their projects and take lessons in computer science, programming, robotics, or other digital and creative technologies. Experts and professionals supervise these activities.
Chahan and Thomas will manage the lab at the TUMO Center in Yerevan. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to stay up-to-date with what’s happening in the workshop and to see what our students are creating!
The Calfa team’s upcoming workshop at TUMO Center in Yerevan is an exciting opportunity for aspiring AI enthusiasts to gain a deeper understanding of the field. With their expertise in AI research and development, the Calfa team is well-positioned to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge on the latest trends and applications in AI.
The workshop promises to be a highly informative and engaging event, and we encourage all those interested in the field to attend. We look forward to seeing this workshop’s impact on the local community, and we hope it inspires more individuals to pursue careers in AI and related fields.
