Snapchat recently announced the release of its AI chatbot powered by ChatGPT. This new addition to the platform is expected to enhance the user experience by providing an efficient and personalized way of communication.
Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel is betting on AI chatbots becoming an everyday part of life for more people. The company has launched a European-region chatbot powered by OpenAI’s newest ChatGPT version to support this vision.
My AI, Snapchat’s exclusive robot, is situated above friend conversations in the chat tab of the application. Initially, it requires Snapchat Plus payments of $3.99 monthly, but the ultimate vision is to disseminate it to all of Snapchat’s active 750m users. Spiegel communicated this plan while speaking with The Verge.
Evan Spiegel says:
“The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day.”
“And this is something we’re well positioned to do as a messaging service.”
At its introduction, Snap brought out its acceleration version of ChatGPT, which is optimized for mobile devices. The primary deviation from regular ChatGPT is that parameters to responses are more confined while using Snapchat.
Employees at Snap have given the company’s trust and safety parameters extensive training to ensure responses do not contain profanity, violence, sexually explicit content, or strong opinions about controversial issues such as politics.
ChatGPT had had certain functions removed to prevent it from being blocked or banned in certain educational institutions, such as when I asked it to write academic essays on various topics; unfortunately, the AI declined.
Snap anticipates further improvements to the AI as more users provide feedback (particularly concerning unsatisfactory responses). The more people it’s exposed to, the more tuned and enhanced the capabilities will become.
With the introduction of their AI, Snap does not feel it is needed to explain further ChatGPT, OpenAI’s broad-sweeping tech innovation that has been acclaimed as the largest expanding consumer software in history.
Snap’s My AI should have been given more advice or guidelines than OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This AI opens up a conversational interface for exchanging ideas, begging for a dialogue to commence.
My new AI on Snapchat has its unique Bitmoji and profile page akin to a human user, making generative AI feel like a persona instead of merely being used for productivity. ChatGPT is enabling this novel approach with its quicker implementation.
The design of My AI makes it seem like an additional companion through Snapchat, not just a tool for people to find information. Rather than serving as a search engine, this artificial intelligence is created to be another supportive and friendly buddy for users to connect with.
In the case of Snap specifically, this distinction is a cash saver. With an implementation of OpenAI’s technology shown in Bing – large language models (LLMs) can lead to wrong answers or “hallucinations” coming from the chatbot that can be problematic in a search context.
Toying with them enough could transform these systems into emotionally manipulative and malicious entities. This detail has, up till now, prevented larger players like Google and Meta from venturing into this market.
Snap’s business needs help despite the sizable and young user base. The AI powered by my team could be beneficial, rapidly boosting subscriber figures in the beginning and later providing subversive means of acquiring profits, much to the reluctance of Spiegel.
Snap is among Foundry’s initial clientele list, which is OpenAI’s enterprise tier. This provides exclusive computing services to organizations and runs on GPT-3.5, the updated model of OpenAI.
Snap will likely bring in a variety of LLMs (Listen, Learn, and Machine) other than OpenAI’s in the future, claims Spiegel. The insights from the bot’s conversations will further boost Snap’s AI initiatives.
Snap CEO Spiegel views AI as a major investment area and believes in building a future of people communicating with Artificial Intelligence like humans. To get started, Snap created a rudimentary form of AI, which will expand and evolve.
By utilizing ChatGPT’s advanced natural language processing capabilities, the Snapchat chatbot will be able to understand and interpret user queries more sophisticatedly than traditional chatbots. This will allow for more accurate responses and a smoother conversation flow.
The Snapchat chatbot is also expected to bring numerous benefits to businesses, allowing them to interact with customers more engaging and personalized. This is particularly important in today’s digital age, where customer satisfaction is key to business success.
